A Magical Evening with Disney On Ice “Dare to Dream”

Christmas which is magical unto itself, was followed by an even more magical evening with my two oldest kids at Disney On Ice “Dare to Dream”. My 2 year old daughter didn’t move a muscle throughout the entire show, she was entranced. My 5 year old son thought the pyrotechnics and aerobatics were pretty cool.
Disney on Ice is a compilation of  ice skating, dancing, music and entertainment and is visually beautiful to watch. I loved the colors and I loved singing along to the Disney songs. Girls sitting all around us squealed and sang along too which helped my daughter get into it and clap along. My son mostly sulked because I refused to buy him a toy, of course.
The show “Dare to Dream”, which features modern and classic Disney princesses is set up in 4 story sections over 2 hours. The first story features Tiana from The Princess and the Frog. The Princess and the Frog is the only Disney movie we haven’t seen, however it was easy to follow along. I found it distracting when Tiana and the Prince turned into frogs because new actors played the frogs, I’m sure the kids didn’t notice but that was all I could see. The second story was Cinderella, which was super cute. Gus Gus is my favorite and the horse and carriage was stunning. After the first two story sections was a brief intermission in which my son begged and pleaded for toys, of course. The second half of the show was the best in my opinion. The story set from “Tangled” was truly amazing, the aerobatics were what I came to see.

Tips:

  • The entire show is set to face the forward center of the arena, so purchase tickets there. We had FaBuLoUs seats and could see quite well, however I will get forward center seats next time.
  • Dress warmly and bring a blanket. I didn’t get the memo to dress like I was going to the snow, even though the word “Ice” should have warned me. I was freezing.
  • Check the venue website to see if you can bring in water or small snacks. Save yourself a penny.
  • Prepare yourself for mounds of begging and pleading for toys. Perhaps even have a new toy ready in the car when the show is over to help ease the whining. Unless you want to spend an oodle for toys that is.
  • Don’t try taking too many pictures and just enjoy the show instead. I tried and tried and tried so I could share pictures with all of you, however between the fast action movements of the skaters, bright white ice and dark background and smoke I couldn’t get very many good shots.
