Earlier this week I shared with you some of the details from the Black Panther press conference and now that it’s finally out I can tell you how much I really loved it!
Black Panther, the latest superhero movie from Marvel Studios has everything you could ask for. It has action, background story, culture, heart and humor. You will find yourself falling in love with a cast of characters that bring something new and different to the big screen. Everyone has been talking about the fact that the cast is almost completely comprised of people of color and as amazing as that is, that wasn’t what struck me most.
What I loved most about this movie was the BAD ASS FEMALES. The women in this film are not only Queens and Princesses, they are warriors, they are the brains, and they kick so much ass. As you watch Black Panther you will see and feel a shift in how women are being perceived through film.
As a Momma to two little girls, I will say, if you have daughters that areat least 8 and up, take them to see Black Panther. Let them see smart, strong women up on the big screen. Let them see the roles that they can take on. When I left the screening with my daughter and asked her if she liked the movie, you can see it in her eyes that not only did she sit there and enjoy the movie, but she saw something different in this one.
Okay, now don’t get me wrong boys will love this movie too. Black Panther is an awesome character, I love how much he relies on his family and his traditions. Rather than just being an egocentric superhero. This one is different and young boys, the one’s who love Marvel movies, will hopefully pick up on those themes as well. Oh and I’m never a fan of the bad guy, the foe, the enemy. But wait until you see Michael B. Jordan as Killmonger. Okay, okay. I don’t want to say anymore, just get out there and see it for yourself.
