The LEGO Batman Movie is a Must-See for Everyone! #LEGOBatmanMovie

February 8, 2017 By Desiree Eaglin

The Funny Mom Blog contributor Mary Lansing had the opportunity to attend the LEGO Batman movie junket. It sounds like an awesome day!! Thank you to Warner Bros. Pictures for the opportunity, all opinions are our own.

“Holy Toledo, Batman! Everything is Awesome!” See what I did there? This Friday, February 10th, The LEGO Batman Movie will open in theatres nationwide giving Nerds a reason to celebrate as one of the most adored pop culture figures will join forces with everyone’s favorite building toy for all-ages.

Batman is definitely one un-stoppable icon. From the beginnings as a comic book about a billionaire orphan who moonlights as a Superhero in Gotham City, to the strange and addicting series in the 1960’s, and the array of films that have graced the screens since the 1980’s, Batman is a universal character that everyone can relate and identify with. Having been a moderate fan since I was young, I was first introduced to Batman on the cult favorite TV series, and, as soon as I found out I would be heading to see The LEGO Batman Movie, I began binge watching the movies again to prepare for the ultimate Batman film to come!

The LEGO Batman Movie kicks off with a great and ruckus opening scene, and pretty much doesn’t calm down from there! Batman (AKA Bruce Wayne. Played by Will Arnett)) is enjoying life on his empire, Wayne Island, and living it the Bachelor’s way. His trusty, dead pan Servant, Alfred (Ralph Fiennes), worries about the young man’s well-being and wishes he would open up his heart to have a family. When the man in black meets Barbara Gordon (Rosario Dawson), Commissioner Gordon’s daughter and new leader of Gotham, Batman is concerned that Ms. Cole has some ideas of her own to catch the villains of Gotham City, and does not recruit the help of the famed superhero. He works alone, He never gets the bad guys to go away for good, she argues.

Both Batman and the new Commissioner Gordon (or do I mean Batgirl?!) have a lot in store as our favorite wack-o nemesis, The Joker (Zach Galifianakis), is on the loose and has brought along the company of those in The Phantom Zone. There, you will meet literally every villain that’s existed; from The Wicked Witch of the West to Lord of the Rings’ Eye of Sauron, and even King Kong, (whom I do not really feel is a ‘villain’, do you?). In the streets of Gotham City, all of these evil folks are out, and it will take a village to get rid of them all.

That village? Batman, Batgirl, Alfred and Batman’s new adopted and enthused son, Dick Grayson (AKA-Robin. Played adorably by Michael Cera).

Something that really struck me with The LEGO Batman Movie is the power of a family; whether it be your blood or your chosen, family is the ‘village’ you need to build yourself up. When family works as a team, and empowers each other, amazing things become possible, and life doesn’t seem so scary.

I also loved the fact that Barbara can kick some major butt, yet, it’s never presented that can “for a girl”. Knowing equality is something that Rosario Dawson is passionate about, I was eager to hear what she would have to say when I attended the press junket for the film…

Batman voice himself, Will Arnett, crashed Rosario’s interview to say a quick hey!

“She’s not like trying to be Batman, and she’s not trying to be her father, Commissioner Gordon. She’s trying to be the version of herself and it’s beautiful to see what her contribution is. She knows what she wants, she knows what she’s capable of and what she’s willing to do to get what she wants. And that’s really, really powerful and a gorgeous lesson.”

The LEGO Batman Movie is a must-see for all ages. Younger children will love the mayhem and great jokes, while the parents will appreciate the films messages and Batman fanatics will adore all the references to characters and pop culture subjects (And, according to my Fiancé, every character named is a true Batman character from the DC universe!).
