Lunar New Year Celebration at SeaWorld San Diego

Lunar New Year Celebration at SeaWorld San Diego, Wishing Tree

Weekends February 13-16 & 21-22, 28th and March 1st

Guests are invited to celebrate the Lunar New Year at SeaWorld San Diego with a sea-inspired celebration! The celebration features special entertainment, Asian-inspired culinary delights, games and prizes and even a special red envelope for each guest in attendance. The Lunar New Year Celebration will run weekends in February 13th-16th, 21st-22nd, 28th and March 1st and is included with admission. The kids and I had the opportunity to experience all of the fun ourselves last week, all opinions are my own. We love going to “Shamu’s house” as my oldest daughter likes to call SeaWorld, a visit has always been a wholesome, family fun experience for each of us and we were more than happy to celebrate the Lunar New Year at SeaWorld. And yeah, I totally braved going alone with all four kids to SeaWorld and I only wanted to pull all my hair out just about twice! 😉

Entertainment

The amazing Chinese Acrobats of Hebei will be performing 25-minute shows four times a day at SeaWorld’s Mission Bay Theater during the Lunar New Year Celebration. Each act the group performs is a dazzling entertaining display of  lion dancing, plate spinning, hoop diving, hat juggling, contortion and chair stacking. Although I took several perfect pictures of their amazing performances, the one above is my favorite because the woman in the background was so proud of the young girl balancing those cups. My children loved the show most of all, the amazement on each of their faces was so awesome to see!

Food

During the Lunar New Year Celebration, Asian-inspired culinary delights abound. We had the opportunity to munch on miso ramen soup (pictured above), pot stickers, egg rolls, bao sandwiches, green tea macaroons and poppy seed macaroons. Also available during the celebration you can find duck lumpia at the Soup Bowl Hut, shaved snow, sweet dorayaki griddle cakes and green tea at the Tea Hut, stir fry noodles and chow mein at the Stir Fry Cart and turkey legs with hoisin sauce at the Grill & Bao Cart.

Red Envelopes

In keeping with the tradition of wishing prosperity and good fortune to family and friends, each guest who comes through the turnstiles during the Lunar New Year Celebration at SeaWorld San Diego will receive a red envelope with a surprise gift inside! We got tickets to come back in our envelopes! How cool is that?

Lunar New Year Festival Area

The Lunar New Year festival area is located just east of the explorers reef at the entrance of the park. You can find all of the Asian-inspired food, games, wish tree where guests can write a conservation wish on a red ribbon they purchase for $1 and place on the tree and the community stage which offers cultural performances throughout the celebration. We had the opportunity to watch the Hoa Nghiem youth group do a beautiful performance.

Games

Inside of the Lunar New Year festival area are games where kids can win prizes. My oldest son insisted on playing the lucky coin game and thankfully he won a stuffed lamb (since it is the year of the lamb) and gave it to his little sister (aww).

Of course a trip to SeaWorld San Diego is never complete without a visit to the dolphins and cleaner fish touch tanks where you can see the delight in my kids faces pictured below!
