My Beginning Reader
I have a few young readers at home. My kindergarten daughter is learning new site words everyday and my first grade son has finally grasped the concept of reading longer passages. He is quickly becoming a voracious little reader. Just as I have done with my other children, I am currently trying to find a book series that will capture his attention and retain his interest in reading more.
How To Find Books That’ll Get Them Hooked On Reading
Although the task of finding books that’ll get your children hooked on reading may sound difficult, it’s actually quite easy!
- Try out a few different book genres!
Offer up some mystery, some fantasy fiction or even something silly! - Give them a comfortable amount of time to read!
No one likes to be rushed - Set up a little reading “nook”!
Comfort for reading at length is key
And that’s it! Not every book genre is for everyone, however once you find a few that your child likes they’ll start reading everything they can find in sight.
You Gotta Give It To Mo
You may have heard of Mo Willems, the revolutionary, award-winning, best-selling Elephant & Piggie books author. Well, now Mo has created a breakout beginning-reader series the Unlimited Squirrels.

Mo Willems seems to really know what kids want to read. The content is fast, fresh and fun. My beginning reader loves this book. And as a mom I love the fact that it addresses a range of physical, emotional, and social development markers. Because being a parent is hard and I can use all the help I can get!

In Unlimited Squirrels in Who is the Mystery Reader, Zoom Squirrel tries out a new superpower with help from a mysterious Mystery Reader. But will the Squirrel pals ever find out who the real Mystery Reader is? Do you know more about reading than the Squirrels do? You will by the end of this book! We sure did!!
