A Cheesy Day with Tillamook at the LA Zoo

September 20, 2012 By Desiree Eaglin

The fam bam and I were invited to the Los Angeles Zoo for a family day thanks to Tillamook Cheese and the Loaf Love tour. The Loaf Love Tour is about spreading the cheesy goodiness “to the people” across the county. To date, the tiny buses that kind of look like cheese have traveled over 62,000 miles and have visited 360 cities all just to spread the cheesy Tillamook love. The Love Loaf Tour will be in So Cal until October 20th, 2012. To check out if they’ll be in a city near you soon, check the schedule out here.

We were invited to a Tillamook blogger lunch where we had the opportunity to enter a grilled cheese sandwich contest. I love food, however truth be told I’m not so crafty in the recipe making department.  I wasn’t really sure what I was doing and I kind of slapped together a bunch of ingredients. My sandwich was called the “Rye Surprise” which is a term I coined on the spot because I’m good with improv like that. Inside Rye bread was Tillamook Monterey Jack Cheese, Truffle Butter, Grilled Onions, Pastrami and a giant portobello mushroom. I don’t even like mushrooms but my daughter is touchy and at that typical 2 year old “what’s that?!” age and she poked her finger into a plate of them so I felt obligated to include the portobello mushroom with the finger sized hole in it. I didn’t win the contest for best grilled cheese sandwich, but let me say that my sandwich was very damn tasty. It just goes to show that when you have superior cheese you can pair just about anything with it and it’s still delicious.

My daughter is at that really cool age where everything is exciting and met with a loud squeal. It was very hot the day of our visit (and by very hot I mean I thought we were going to die) so we saw as many animals as we could before we became one with the asphalt. She loved the giraffes and my son loved the smashing penny machines. I loved the air conditioning back in the car.

This is not a sponsored post, we were invited to the Los Angeles Zoo and to lunch as guest of Tillamook. All opinions are my own and I know, you think my opinions are awesome.

[…] When we were at the LA Zoo a few weeks ago, she yelled at a kid that was helplessly walking behind her that I was HER mommy, “MY MOMMY! MINE!” The poor kid was baffled. And for good reason. […]
