Missy turned 5 years old at the beginning of this month and being the quiet, somewhat introverted and sweet kid that she is, she often gets overlooked. That is why I wanted to make sure she had the best birthday party EVER at Pretend City in Irvine California. I knew that she would be in great hands to have an amazing day that would create memories that would last a lifetime at Pretend City! Pretend City located in Irvine, California is an indoor children’s museum set up to resemble a true-to-life city. The 15,000 square foot “city” of Pretend City consists of an Art Studio, Library, Ralphs grocery store, Bank, Farm, Construction Site, Cafe (where you can purchase lunch!), Amphitheater, Home, Beach, Gas Station, Fire Station, Police Station, Post Office, Pizza Restaurant, Dentist Office, Doctors Office and Marina. In short, Pretend City is seriously amazing and I am so, so, so happy that my children have such an amazing place to go!

So…What’s Included?
Pretend City provides a birthday host, private room, table and chairs, refrigerator and you provide the décor, food and drinks. To make your birthday party even more convenient, you may choose from a few different Pretend City party themes including “Day at the Beach”, “Out on the Farm”, “Early Riser” or the “Pretend City Experience” in which some of these themes include extras like crafts, goodie bags, tableware and cake depending on the theme (Pretend City members receive an extra 10% off on all birthday party packages).

The Standard Birthday Party Package includes:
- One (1) hour in private party room beginning at 10am, 12pm, 2pm or 4pm
- Unlimited time in the museum following time in private party room
- Birthday Party Room/Museum admission for up to 30 guests total (including both children and adults); additional guests will be $10 per guest
- Birthday party child(ren) will be complimentary
- Children ages 12 months and younger are complimentary
- Tables, chairs, sink with running water and refrigerator/freezer provided
- White board wall and dry-erase markers available for the children’s entertainment
- 1-2 Pretend City Party Hosts to assist facilitate the party: before for setup, during, and after for cleanup
- 1 buy one get one free return ticket for all party children in attendance to visit the museum another time
- 10% discount in the Mini Mall Gift Shop for all guests
The Pretend City party packages start at $385 and up depending on extra’s and if you decide to do a themed party.

Our Mermaid 5th Birthday Party!
We chose to have the standard Pretend City Birthday Party and it was perfect! I liked the idea of choosing our own theme for our Pretend City birthday party and since my daughter is currently in love with mermaids, it was a perfect fit! I was able to pick up a few pink and teal tableware items and I purchased the most adorable mermaid printables from JW Illustrations to create party favors and mermaid table centerpieces. I kept the decorations super simple, seeing as we were moving just two days after the party and everyone loved it. I also appreciated that Pretend City gave me a list of nearby restaurants that would be able to cater our party – that was super helpful of them! We ordered pizzas, I brought a fruit salad, some boxed juices, chips and a rainbow cake and we were all set to have the best 5th birthday party ever!

I chose to include the extra hat craft, hosted by our Pretend City party attendant because I knew that the kids would love it. They got to decorate a top hat with tons of stickers and everyone had a blast. I highly recommend choosing an additional craft to do during your one hour private party room experience!
Pretend City Party Fun!
After my daughter and all of her friends at tons of pizza, fruit and cake and decorated top hats we had the opportunity to play inside the Pretend City exhibits for as long as we wanted! My daughter loved being the center of attention and she loved playing at one of her favorite places with all of her friends at once. I took a ton of pictures of her happy, shining face on her very special day. It was so heartwarming to see her having such an amazing birthday party at an amazing location. Thank you Pretend City for the opportunity!
