Please join me for a very special twitter party about Cord Blood and Tissue Banking

July 23, 2012 By Desiree Eaglin

Please join me and several other fabulous family bloggers for a twitter block party this Wednesday. I will be co-hosting the hour between 2pm-3pm and I would really appreciate it if you would stop on by and chat with me about Cord Blood and Tissue banking. It is going to be a really great conversation about not only the benefits of Cord Blood and Tissue Banking, but also new parenting and pregnancy topics. Gift cards from Diapers.com will also be awarded throughout the day.

What is Cord Blood Banking?
Immediately after birth and the umbilical cord has been cut, the remaining blood is collected. The entire procedure is painless and takes less than 5 minutes to complete. The collected blood is then sent to the laboratory and frozen in cryogenic storage tanks for long-term preservation.

What is Cord Tissue Banking?
Cord Tissue collection is taken immediately after the cord blood has been collected. A piece of the umbilical cord (approximately 4 to 8 inch segment) is cut and preserved in the CBR CordCup® container. Cord Tissue research is still in its early stages and by saving large pieces of the umbilical cord tissue you will be insuring the availability of using the best technology in the future.

Saving both sources of stem cells (Blood and Tissue) may offer access to even more medicine in the future.

I did not bank Cord Blood or Tissue with any of my children and I wish I would have. If we ever have a 4th baby I will absolutely consider it. For the sole purpose of insurance. Insurance against the unknown and the what if’s.  The beneficial properties that Cord Blood and Tissue Banking can provide are reassuring.
